Bullock Road Merlot Cabernet Shiraz
A blend of all three red varieties grown at the vineyard. The 2005 Bullock Road red is a beautiful deep crimson colour with a deep nose of ripe plums. Enduring flavours of red and blackberry fruit, oak spices and liquorice. Smooth tannis and a lingering finish.
Cellaring: will reward 8+ years.
Viticulture: 2005 was a warm long vintage with the vineyard producing more grapes than the desired 2-2.2 tonnes per acre so fruit thinning was undertaken to bring the quantity back down to maximise flavour. The berry and bunch size was consistently small thus resulting in a good ratio of skin to juice and better colour and flavour extraction.
Vinification: The two parcels were fermented separately and aged separately in seasoned French Hogsheads (300lt) for 16 months. After maturation the wine was blended together and then bottled.
Reviews:Has far more substance and weight than its price and
regional description might suggest; ripe blackberry, black currant and
spice fruit; controlled oak and tannins. Will improve. Amazingly
a blend from de-classified Mt Jagged Vineyard wine. Drink:
2015. .
90/100. (US Wine & Spirits Oct 05).
